SI SCARE Association was founded in 2003 by Tara Fasol-Chambers under the name Haunted West Frankfort, launching the first haunted house event at the Old City Hall in West Frankfort just two weeks before Halloween and in an effort to raise money for the family of a local girl with leukemia. 

Giving 100 percent of proceeds from that event to the family, Fasol-Chambers and volunteers agreed that the event would continue each year and each year 100 percent of their profits would be given to those in need. 

Ten years later, the group has become established, under the name SCARE Association as a ten-person committee with over 30 regular volunteers and many donors and sponsors who contribute 365 days a year to continued charity events and fundraiser to give back, 100 percent of profits, to people in need in Southern Illinois. 

The group strives to create community events, which in turn raise money that help SCARE support causes such as thousands of dollars worth of donation to the local food pantry, a coat program providing free coats in conjuction with local hall of fame sports broadcasters, free family entertainment events such as Movies in the park, Kid's Blockparty in the Park, a Relay For Life team, donations to local groups including CASA, Redbird Ready, Shop with a Cop and many others.
